Lieutenant Rowena Morgan to be Template for EMH Mark III

As a result of the rush of activity here on campus these past few weeks, I neglected to inform you of Lieutenant (JG) Lily Flower's decision regarding her selection as the template for the new EMH Mark III. She turned down the selection. Lieutenant Flowers will not be serving as the template for the next Emergency Medical Hologram.

Starfleet has went with their secondary candidate, instead -- Lieutenant Rowena Morgan, a Starfleet medical officer currently assigned to the USS Enterprise-E. Lieutenant Morgan has accepted, and is currently participating in the template modeling process on Jupiter Station.

UPDATES: Lieutenant Flowers / Earth Terror Attacks

A few updates on current events:

Lieutenant Lily Flowers will be released from the hospital on Friday. She is recovering from her wounds in the San Francisco terrorist attacks on Friday. Surgery was successful, and her internal injuries have been repaired. Thankfully, no major organs were affected. She's one lucky woman!

In regards to those Earth terror attacks in San Francisco, New York City, Washington DC, Toyko and Moscow, a terror group has claimed responsibility, but seems to prefer remaining anonymous so far. Federation investigators continue to investigate.

Lieutenant Flowers In Stable Condition

I just got back from the hospital here on campus. Lieutenant Lily Flowers is doing well; she's in stable condition and resting following her surgery. The doctors were able to repair her internal injuries -- she'll be released from medical care sometime this coming week. I'll share more info later tomorrow.

Also, many of you may have been following the FNS (Federation News Service) channels this weekend in regards to the terrorist attacks here on Earth. For those that have not been watching the FNS broadcasts, I'll share more about that tomorrow as well.

It's been a long weekend; I'm going to turn in for the night. Stick around, though. I'll catch you up to speed on everything in a few hours.

Lieutenant Lily Flowers Injured in San Francisco Terror Attack

I regret to inform you, Lieutenant Flowers was injured in a transporter incident earlier this evening while she was leaving an event in downtown San Francisco. Transporter operators were able to retrieve her before her pattern degraded, however, she materialized with internal injuries. She is being treated at Leonard H. McCoy Medical Center here on campus.

I have not yet heard her status. She's still in surgery.

I've also been informed that the transport center Lily was departing from appears to have been the target of a terror attack. It may have connections to the recent bombing in Paris, France. There were casualties -- 18 at last report.

I've also heard that there were similar targeted attacks in New York City, Washington DC, Toyko and Moscow at the same time as well. Whatever happened in Paris appears to be the beginning of something bigger.

Be safe out there, folks. Earth is once again under threat. We don't know who, yet, but it appears to be from within.

Emergency Medical Hologram, Mark I

With the news that our very own, Lieutenant (jg) Lily Flowers has been selected as the possible template for the new EMH Mark III, I thought it might be helpful to introduce you to the three existing medical holograms already in service to Starfleet (EMH-1; EMH-2; and the LMH). Tonight, tomorrow and Friday, we will feature the program file biographies of each medical hologram. Tonight we start with the first, the EMH Mark I.

Lieutenant Lily Flowers Selected as Model for EMH Mark III

We have some fascinating news to share:

Our very own Lieutenant (jg) Lily Flowers has been chosen to be the holographic template for the new EMH (emergency medical hologram), Mark III. Starfleet was looking for a respected young female officer to serve as the physical basis for the new EMH, and Lily was selected from among six final candidates. Her personality, her youth, and the fact that she was recently decorated with the Starfleet Cross -- Starfleet's second-highest service medal -- appear to be factors in her selection.

Lieutenant Flowers has the option to decline this honor if she so chooses. She's been given a few days to consider her answer, and we'll share her decision right here.

For now, let me just say, congratulations Lieutenant! Your service and sacrifice to Starfleet continues to make all of us here at the Academy very proud!

Starfleet Promotion: Doctor Julian Bashir

I've just seen a report from Deep Space 9 earlier today. My older brother, Captain Joel Archer (the new commanding officer of Deep Space 9 following the death of Captain Benjamin Sisko), has promoted Doctor Julian Bashir to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

Lieutenant Commander Bashir has been promoted in honor of his actions during the Dominion War. A well-deserved promotion. Congratulations Doctor!

Earthquake on Bolian Homeworld

For those who haven't heard yet -- there was a massive earthquake on Bolarus IX about an hour ago. It registered 8.8 on the Richter Scale. The epicenter of the quake was just outside of the planetary capital city of Bolsetu, and has caused significant damage to the city and surrounding area. Unfortunately, it also struck at midday, so millions of workers, tourists, and Federation representatives were in Bolsetu at the time.

FNS reports say that the massive underground business center of Bolsetu Caverns collapsed during the shaking. Roughly 25,000 people work in offices down there on any given day. Officials have appealed to the Federation Council for emergency assistance; vessels are already being dispatched.

Bolarus IX is the home world of about 8.3 billion Bolians. Planetary officials estimate that casualty numbers in the Bolsetu area could exceed 100,000. The Benaris Fault Line (which runs through the area) has been relatively stable for the past 250 years. Today's mega earthquake caught everyone by surprise.

Our hearts go out to the people of Bolarus IX. Let's hope the casualties are far lower than expected.

A New Romulan Praetor

As some of you know, Romulan Praetor Neral died yesterday from a heart attack. Early medical reports indicate no foul play, noting instead that the Praetor's death does appear to be a result of stress-induced heart failure. The Romulan leader's health had been declining ever since the end of the Dominion War.

Today, Proconsul Hiren was confirmed by the Senate as the new Praetor of the Romulan people. Praetor Hiren is a much-loved Romulan politician who favors continued strong ties with the Federation, Klingons, and other Alliance members.

Our thoughts are with the Romulan people as they deal with the sudden loss of Praetor Neral.

The New Mission Statement of Starfleet

Now that the Dominion War has come to an end, and the Federation-wide recovery is underway, Starfleet Command has updated the official mission statement of Starfleet. It better reflects the new post-war era:
"Space: the final frontier. This is the continuing mission of Starfleet: to defend our home from hostile aggression; to maintain peace and freedom within our Federation borders; to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; and to boldly go where no one has gone before."
The war has taught us many things. Moving forward, Starfleet is no longer just an organization focused upon science and space exploration. An active military focus -- on a level never seen before in the Federation -- has become a part of everyday life. It is the hope of all in Starfleet that this continued military deterrence will lower the odds of us ever having to fight another galactic conflict on the scale of the Dominion War.
